Mercedes Benz S600 - Twin-turbo V12 engine

The Mercedes S600 is powered by a 510 horsepower 5.5-liter, twin-turbo V12 engine. The sedan is capable of doing 0-60 in 5 seconds while marinating a decent fuel economy owing to revised intake and refinement of V12 engine in the 2008 model. A driver-selectable Sport mode provides virtually flat cornering capability far beyond ordinary suspensions. Automatic 4-wheel level control gradually lowers the ride height as speeds increase, to improve aerodynamics and stability.

The 4-wheel independent multilink suspension is key to the exceptional poise and control of the S600. The 5-arm rear multilink design, a Mercedes-Benz innovation, controls rear-wheel movement with outstanding precision. For more precise and predictable handling, the front suspension and steering gear are mounted to the body structure via a rigid subframe.

Standard torque vectoring brake technology provides additional control and precision in turns via targeted rear-wheel braking. If the vehicle´s Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) detects understeer while cornering, the system applies the brake to the inside rear wheel, temporarily shifting torque distribution in favor of the outside wheel. This causes the vehicle to gently pivot in compensation, putting it on a line of travel, or vector, better suited to the turn.
